      Air-cooled Porsches have reached unprecedented popularity, but even within that exclusive realm, this one is exceptional. Modified by the renowned tuner RUF under the guidance of Jerry Seinfeld, it recently changed hands for $657,000—approximately three times the price of a comparable stock 911S from the same time period.

      It’s easy to see why this car commanded such a premium. Seinfeld, a globally recognized comedian, is also an avid Porsche enthusiast. He acquired this vehicle in 2008 and shipped it right away to RUF in Pfaffenhausen, Germany.

      Over three years, RUF transformed the original classic 911S into a highly personalized car that met Seinfeld’s specific preferences.

      What Modifications Were Made by RUF?

      Lift the rear decklid, and you'll discover a 3.4-liter twin-plug flat-six engine outfitted with individual throttle bodies, electronic fuel injection, and a RUF exhaust system. Red velocity stacks channel air into the engine, delivering power to the rear wheels through a custom six-speed manual transmission.

      RUF’s enhancements didn’t end with the engine. The tuner reinforced the chassis with added bracing, installed Bilstein suspension components, incorporated a G50 torsion tube, and upgraded the brakes to those from a Porsche 930. These modifications resulted in a sharper, more capable vehicle while still retaining its classic character.

      Despite all the upgrades, the overall appearance and feel of the car remain largely unchanged. The rear features wider fenders, and staggered Fuchs wheels provide the only clues that this is not a stock model. Inside, there’s Pepita cloth upholstery, lightweight door cards, RUF gauges, and a rear-seat delete.

      The receipts narrate their own tale. Seinfeld invested €257,883, roughly $300,000 at current conversion rates, on the modifications, and he possesses the receipt to prove it.
