The upcoming performance sedan is expected to incorporate some form of hybrid technology, enhancing its power and speed.

A new generation BMW M3 is anticipated to debut in late 2027 or early 2028.

Renderings illustrate how the sedan might adopt the Neue Klasse styling.

The vehicle will be powered by an improved 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

As the debated all-electric iM3 moves closer to launch, BMW has assured that the combustion engine variant will remain available for the time being. The next iteration of the gasoline-powered M3 will coexist with its electric counterpart.

This new model, likely to be designated G84, is expected to be unveiled in late 2027 or early 2028. It will present the brand’s Neue Klasse design language within the M3 lineup, providing a distinct visual departure from the current model. The key question is whether it will enhance the design or simply take a new approach.

      A Transformation for the M3

Shortly after we published images of a disguised G84 M3 prototype being tested in Europe, Nikita Chuiko from Kolesa created a rendering showcasing what the new M3 might look like, merging the iX3’s Neue Klasse design elements with features from the existing M3 CS.

To elevate one of the world’s most celebrated sports sedans into the next phase for BMW, the company plans to revamp the exterior design, which may include a streamlined profile, potentially featuring flush door handles, pronounced wheel arches, and a fresh interpretation of the front and rear styling.

If it looks like this, BMW may have a strong contender on its hands.

Similar to the second-generation iX3 and the recent Neue Klasse concepts, the vehicle showcases LED headlights elegantly integrated into the refined kidney grilles. The lower bumper, grille, and air intakes are significantly more angular compared to the previous model, giving the M3 an even more aggressive appearance.

      The Future M3

BMW faced considerable criticism upon the debut of the current M3 and M4, particularly regarding the oversized front grille. Although opinions have softened over time, that design remains polarizing.

Considering the M3’s iconic status, it’s certain that the Neue Klasse version will spark intense discussions about its design, with some individuals likely embracing it while others may favor the existing model. Ultimately, creating a universally appealing design is an impossible task.

What is crucial is that BMW seems committed to perfecting the mechanical aspects.

In contrast to Mercedes-AMG, which controversially transformed the C63 into a turbocharged four-cylinder PHEV, the G84 M3 will employ an updated version of the current 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, likely incorporating some form of light hybrid assistance to make it more powerful and faster than ever before.
