For the first time, Ford is selling a car from its Heritage Fleet to the public, with the earnings going towards restoration efforts.

Ford has decided to make its private Heritage Fleet available for public sale, featuring the 2006 GT Heritage Edition #003, which served as Ford's marketing and media vehicle. All funds generated will assist in the restoration of Ford’s extensive 500-car Heritage collection.

While Ford is currently recognized for its performance vehicles, it's worth noting that this has not always been the case. For many years, like many other manufacturers, it faced challenges with fuel economy standards, production problems, and limited innovation. However, the introduction of the Ford GT in the early 2000s marked a significant turnaround for the brand.

This specific model is from 2006 and is numbered as 003, making it the earliest Heritage Edition of the GT. Until now, it has been owned solely by Ford.

In an unprecedented move, the Blue Oval brand is set to sell this vehicle from its own collection.

Dressed in Gulf Blue with orange detailing, this GT commemorates Ford’s successes in endurance racing at Le Mans. Under its rear cover lies a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine producing 500 hp (410 kW) and 500 lb-ft (678 Nm) of torque, which is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Originally, Ford utilized this car for marketing and media purposes, and it has remained within the collection ever since. The initial purchaser, whoever bids the highest at Barrett-Jackson’s 2025 Scottsdale Fall Auction, will also receive several extras alongside the vehicle itself, including a Certificate of Authenticity from Ford and an original build book detailing its assembly. The profits will aid in maintaining the vast collection of vehicles owned by the Blue Oval.

While one might assume this GT has been preserved solely in a museum, it has a history of on-road use.

It has recorded 8,435 miles and has been involved in at least two incidents noted in its CarFax vehicle history report. One of these incidents was a low-speed rear-end collision, and in another, it appears to have gone off-road, resulting in minor damage to the undercarriage after hitting a ditch. It remains a mystery who was driving at the time.

Both of these events occurred nearly two decades ago and have since been repaired. The new owner will undoubtedly receive one of the most exceptional Fords ever made available for public sale.

The fact that this represents the first sale from the brand’s private collection makes it even more appealing.
