Nissan is set to unveil a new Skyline 400R, but it may not be what you expect | Carscoops
This new model will fit between the current Skyline 400R and the Nismo variant in Nissan's range.
The Skyline 400R Limited will be exclusive to Japan, with production limited to only 400 units.
It will be powered by Nissan’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo six engine, delivering 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
The updated version may feature unique exterior and interior trim and design elements.
Nissan has been manufacturing the current Skyline sedan in Japan since 2014, and despite its age and the discontinuation of the Infiniti-branded version in the US, it continues to thrive in its home market.
Now, it’s about to welcome a more dynamic addition to the lineup: the Skyline 400R Limited, which is set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month.
At this point, Nissan has not released any official details or images of the vehicle aside from its name. However, the name suggests what can be expected. The Skyline 400R Limited will likely showcase the familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, the same one that was used in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport previously available in the United States.
As a baseline, this engine produces 400 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque, although the Nismo version sold exclusively in Japan has been enhanced to deliver 414 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm).
According to Japanese source Creative311, production of the model will be restricted to just 400 units, and it might be a "half-baked" version of the Nismo. This implies that while it may share the same engine and output, it might lack some of the additional upgrades found in the Nismo variant.
Some of those upgrades included unique driving modes, special decals and badging, 19-inch Enkei wheels, carbon fiber details, an improved Vehicle Dynamics Control system, and a modified ABS system.
In contrast, the 400R Limited is anticipated to receive only minor updates over the standard 400R, potentially limited to trim enhancements or slight styling modifications.
Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but initial estimates suggest it could begin at about 7 million yen (around $46,000). This would position it nicely between the existing 400R and the Nismo in Nissan's lineup.
