In reality, it likely delivered close to 500 hp (507 PS) when allowed to rev up to 6,000 rpm.

      The old gross horsepower ratings, established when engines were tested without exhaust restrictions and ancillary components, were phased out in 1971 in favor of more accurate net horsepower figures comparable to modern standards.
