A Software Glitch Has Led to the Recall of Almost 400,000 Toyota Trucks | Carscoops
Approximately 400,000 vehicles are being recalled due to an issue with the rearview camera software and a manufacturing defect.
Toyota has announced two recalls affecting the Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia models.
The Tundra and Sequoia face a software issue concerning the rearview camera.
Certain Tacoma pickups may have defective front driveshaft assemblies that could fail.
Toyota is commencing October with two new recalls that impact around 400,000 vehicles within the United States, including the popular Tacoma as well as the Tundra and Sequoia.
The latter two models are part of the larger recall, which involves 394,000 trucks and SUVs from the 2023 to 2025 model years. The automaker indicates that a software issue may hinder the proper display of the rearview camera image.
When shifting the vehicles into reverse, the 14-inch infotainment system might show a half green, fully green, or black screen. This violates federal safety standards and heightens the risk of inadvertently reversing into a person or object.
As this is a programming problem, the remedy is relatively simple; dealership technicians will perform a software update. Notifications are expected to be sent out by the end of next month.
A Faulty Component Leads to Tacoma Recall
The second recall affects approximately 6,000 Tacoma pickups that come with four-wheel drive. The automaker states that some 2025 models may have faulty front driveshaft assemblies.
While specific details were limited, the company mentioned that a “part used in the front driveshaft joints… may not have been manufactured with the right material and could deform or break during operation.” This could affect vehicle handling and allow the truck to move while in park.
Owners will be informed in November and must take their trucks to a dealership, where staff will check the serial numbers of the front driveshaft assembly. If they belong to the defective batch, they will be replaced at no cost.
