Hyundai Sees Unprecedented Sales Driven by Unexpected Models | Carscoops
The Tucson continues to be Hyundai's best-selling model in the US, with 165,239 units sold.
Hyundai has recorded sales of 678,349 vehicles in the US so far this year, with deliveries seeing a notable 14 percent increase in September. However, certain models like the Sonata and Santa Cruz are still facing challenges.
Hyundai experienced a significant boost in sales last month in the US, largely due to heightened interest in its electric vehicles (EVs), as well as several SUV and sedan models. Although the federal EV tax credit was eliminated at the end of September, the South Korean manufacturer seems optimistic about maintaining its sales momentum throughout the remainder of the year and into 2026.
In September, Hyundai's total vehicle sales reached 71,003 in the US, marking a 14 percent rise from the 62,491 units sold in the same month the previous year. Additionally, the company's Q3 sales rose by 11 percent to 678,349 units compared to the 610,494 vehicles sold during the first three quarters of 2024.
EVs Driving Sales Growth
Several models contributed to last month’s sales increase. The all-electric Ioniq 5 saw a remarkable 152 percent surge in sales, rising from 3,336 units to 8,408. While many automakers experienced a final spike in EV sales before the expiration of the federal tax credit, Hyundai has proactively implemented strategies to mitigate the impact.
The company is now offering a cash incentive of $7,500 on 2025 models and has reduced prices by up to $9,800 on the 2026 Ioniq 5. So far this year, Ioniq 5 sales have increased by 36 percent, moving from 30,318 units to 41,091.
In addition, Ioniq 6 sales rose by 36 percent, though they represent a small fraction of Hyundai's total sales, with only 814 units sold last month and 9,132 sold this year. The larger, three-row Ioniq 9 sold 4,177 units.
Demand for the smaller Venue also surged by 77 percent last month, with 2,836 units sold nationwide. Hyundai reported a 28 percent increase in Santa Fe sales, totaling 10,114 units. Sales of the Elantra grew by 23 percent in September.
Nevertheless, there are some exceptions in what has been a strong year for Hyundai. Year-to-date sales of the Sonata are down 5 percent to 45,914, while Santa Cruz sales have dropped by 18 percent to 20,633, and Kona sales decreased by 11 percent to 57,278.
