Honda Passport Sales Surge While ZDX Demonstrates Why It Was Discontinued | Carscoops
September sales indicate a strong performance for Honda SUVs, with the Passport at the forefront, while Acura’s ZDX quietly declines.
Passport sales have increased by nearly 75% in 2025, with the TrailSport trim leading the way. Honda hybrids have achieved new sales records, with the CR-V, Accord, and Civic taking the lead. In contrast, the discontinued ZDX from Acura is still struggling, underscoring its brief market presence.
Although car buyers may be facing challenges due to limited supply, Honda’s sales numbers demonstrate that the demand for its models remains robust. Together with Acura, the company sold 105,097 vehicles in September, despite tighter inventories on popular models. The Passport was the clear highlight, achieving its best sales year yet. Conversely, the Acura ZDX, recently discontinued after just one year in the market, faced difficulties.
Total Honda sales for the month reached 95,391, which is merely a 0.3 percent decrease from the previous September. Overall, year-to-date sales have increased by 4.1 percent. Passport demand has significantly contributed to this growth, with a 75.5 percent increase for the year and a notable 108.8 percent surge in September alone. Almost 80 percent of buyers are opting for the rugged TrailSport trim, indicating that Honda's adventurous positioning resonates well with customers.
SUV Performance
The CR-V continued to lead with over 28,000 sales in September, more than half of which were hybrid models, while the Pilot and HR-V accounted for an additional 20,000 sales collectively. In the passenger vehicle segment, Honda sold nearly 30,000 sedans and coupes during September.
The Accord and Civic hybrids represent 47 percent and 36 percent of hybrid sales, respectively. Overall, electrified models achieved a new monthly sales record of 32,387 units, bolstered by the launch of the Prologue EV.
Acura’s Mixed Performance
In September, Acura sold 9,706 vehicles, reflecting a 2.2 percent decline in year-over-year sales. The Integra maintained steady sales of over 1,500 units, and the MDX and RDX together contributed over 4,800 deliveries, with the ADX reportedly capturing nearly 30% of retail sales in its segment.
However, the ZDX continues to be a significant drawback for the lineup, suffering a 61.3 percent year-over-year decline in September sales. While this may seem steep, it translates to a drop from 979 units in 2024 to just 395 this year.
Since the beginning of the year, Acura has only delivered 11,915 units. By comparison, Honda has sold more than three times as many Prologues during the same timeframe. Given this disparity in sales, it is unsurprising that production of the ZDX has already been reduced.
