Supplier sources indicate that Dodge’s 800-volt Banshee EV has been scrapped, as Stellantis distances itself from complete electrification.

Reports suggest that the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee has been canceled. Stellantis is scaling back its electric vehicle ambitions, instead reviving HEMI V8 engines across its offerings. Dodge is now shifting its attention toward the Hurricane-powered Charger SIXPACK.

The electric Dodge Challenger has faced challenges since its introduction, with mediocre reviews, disappointing sales, and numerous reported issues. According to industry insiders, the 800-volt Banshee trim is reportedly canceled before it even debuts.

In the past six months, Stellantis has undergone a significant shift in its electric vehicle strategy, moving towards a more traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) approach. The HEMI V8 is once again prominent, being reinstated in the Ram 1500, exclusively utilized in the Durango, and continuing in the Jeep Wrangler. There are even possibilities of it being included in the Gladiator.

The reliability of a report from MoparInsiders claiming the demise of the flagship SRT Banshee seems increasingly likely, as suppliers reportedly assert that Dodge has completely abandoned the vehicle. Dodge did not confirm or deny this information when we reached out for a statement.

A spokesperson from Stellantis stated, “Stellantis continues to reassess its product strategy to align with consumer demand. Our plan ensures we provide customers with a variety of vehicles featuring flexible powertrain options that best fulfill their needs. With the recent announcement in July regarding the return of the iconic SRT performance division, we are also evaluating plans for future SRT vehicles.”

The brand appears ready to implement significant changes now that EPA regulations have lessened in importance, eliminating the need for automakers to buy carbon emission credits. The all-electric Ram REV has been canceled, as has the Jeep Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid. So, the loss of another EV that would have exceeded the Charger Daytona’s price seems inconsequential.

Nevertheless, performance remains a focus within the brand. The Charger SIXPACK is being introduced and aims to provide a glimpse of what the Hellcats once delivered. The prospect of a V8 Charger appears more feasible than ever, even if it necessitates redesigning the chassis and engine compartment. We have contacted Stellantis and will update this article if we receive any further information.
