Perhaps you're still uncertain about the new Honda Prelude. You might even find it somewhat lackluster. However, this Japanese Super GT racecar should eliminate any doubts you have.
On Tuesday, Honda unveiled the Prelude GT500, which will take the place of the Civic Type R-GT for the 2026 season. While the production version for the U.S. is front-wheel drive and produces 200 horsepower, the racecar generates a hefty 650 hp directed to the rear wheels. Remarkably, both engines have a displacement of 2.0 liters, though the Super GT variant’s engine has been significantly tuned and does away with the hybrid system.

It's clear that the Prelude racecar lacks any subtlety. Its body is equipped with practically every aerodynamic feature imaginable, including canards, ducts, and a swan-neck rear wing. My favorite aspect has to be the exhaust that vents through the right-hand door, which is sure to produce impressive flames.
This year, Honda seems to be the sole Super GT manufacturer debuting a new car, as Toyota continues with the GR Supra and Nissan is once again using the Z Nismo. Both of these models have had a successful run, clinching every victory of the 2025 season so far. In contrast, Honda risks experiencing its first winless season in the series since 2016.

The Prelude GT500 is scheduled for a shakedown at Sportsland Sugo on Wednesday. With its speed even while stationary, I can't wait to see how thrilling it will be on a real racetrack. Be sure to watch for that video when it becomes available—I’ll be eagerly anticipating it.
