Stolen Vehicle Partially Leaps Open Seattle Bridge During Wild Police Pursuit | Carscoops

      Seattle police have released new footage of a stolen vehicle leaping over a partially open drawbridge before the driver disappeared.

      The driver crashed through a safety gate and soared across the gap before fleeing the scene. The car was later discovered abandoned and severely damaged, but the suspect remains at large.

      While most people are not involved in crime, some may at least entertain thoughts about how to evade law enforcement during a chase. A common tactic seen in films or television is performing daring stunts, such as drifting or even jumping over a bridge. Recently, this last method was employed by an unidentified individual driving a stolen vehicle in Seattle.

      Around 12:20 p.m., officers attempted to halt the Audi when they noticed a stolen license plate near 10th Ave E and East Boston St. The driver chose to flee instead of complying. Authorities lost sight of the vehicle but quickly re-located it.

      Dashcam footage released by Seattle police captured the dramatic conclusion to the chase, showcasing both the jump and the lead-up to it on September 17. The driver maneuvered through traffic at moderate speeds before reaching the University Bridge. Upon arrival, the safety arms were down, and the bridge was in the process of lowering but not yet fully sealed.

      Video from either side of the bridge recorded the moment the Audi SUV driver breached the safety barrier and accelerated over the gap. The car briefly became airborne, landed hard on the other side of the bridge, and continued northward.

      It was later found abandoned near Pasadena Place East in the University District, significantly damaged, with a large hole in the windshield. Despite a thorough search, the driver remains unlocated.

      Authorities have not disclosed if there were any passengers during the event. This incident marks another instance of a drawbridge making headlines, despite the perilous nature of such a maneuver. Seattle police are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect to come forward.
