A man recorded himself reaching speeds of 130 mph during a police chase, but the footage ultimately contributed to his sentence in jail.
Dean Bruce led the police on a 33-mile chase at 130 mph while documenting the event.
He was taken into custody for driving without a license, insurance, or valid plates.
Bruce pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 15 months in prison along with a 31-month driving ban.
Sometimes, criminals face the consequences they deserve, but occasionally, they suffer even more. In the case of a man evading police in the UK, he not only ended up arrested but also became the subject of mockery. After leading officers on a 130 mph (209 km/h) pursuit, it was discovered that the motorcyclist had unwittingly filmed evidence against himself, resulting in further embarrassment online.
Durham Constabulary remarked, “A motorcyclist who led police on a 130 mph chase made the unusual (but helpful) decision to capture his misdeeds on a helmet camera.” They didn't stop at a simple comment; the rider, Dean Bruce, had a video shared by the police that he filmed himself before and during the chase.
A Not-So-Private Highlight Reel
“This is Dean Bruce,” the captions begin, revealing that he lacks a driver’s license or insurance and that he is riding with cloned plates. Following this, the Constabulary adds, “Let’s hope Dean Bruce doesn’t do anything to draw attention to himself,” just before the young man accelerates on the road, overtaking other vehicles.
Eventually, a motorcycle officer spots him and initiates a pursuit. This chase lasted approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Bishop Auckland to Wallsend in Northern UK. Around the midpoint, the motorcycle officer received assistance from air units that confirmed Bruce was traveling at 130 mph, nearly double the national speed limit.
From Helmet Cam To Courtroom
“Even after the pursuit had stopped, his helmet cam footage revealed that he continued to drive recklessly without consideration for other road users and pedestrians, underscoring the importance of our efforts to swiftly apprehend dangerous drivers,” authorities stated.
Once they located Bruce at his residence, he was arrested, and the police confiscated his helmet cam footage, which was used to secure his conviction. He is now facing a 15-month prison sentence and a 31-month driving ban.
