Renowned Italian Design Firm Is Developing Its Own Gullwing Hypercar | Carscoops
A new hypercar featuring gullwing doors, a retro aesthetic, and an analogue feel is set to debut next month.
Production of this limited edition is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026.
The vehicle showcases various design elements inspired by the past and is equipped with gullwing doors.
Zagato and Capricorn are set to reveal this exclusive model in Belgium next month.
The interest in multi-million dollar hypercars continues to surge, and next month, one of the most illustrious names in automotive design will enter this elite market. In collaboration with Capricorn, the engineering firm responsible for the Apollo IE's carbon fiber monocoque, Zagato is preparing to introduce its first in-house hypercar. This model will be custom-built, limited to just 19 units.
Scheduled to be unveiled at the Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium next month, the unnamed vehicle has so far been teased with a single image, and much of its design is still obscured. However, after enhancing the image in Photoshop, some design features become visible.
The gullwing doors immediately stand out, as they are among the most exotic for any vehicle. Additionally, Zagato has created wing mirrors that extend significantly from the front fenders. At the front, there is a substantial air extraction vent on the hood, a relatively subtle front bumper, and squircle-shaped headlights. Overall, the hypercar presents a refined and retro-themed design that offers a refreshing alternative to the aerodynamic-focused vehicles currently on the market.
While the interior details remain undisclosed, one visible element is the presence of three classic round gauges, replacing the standard digital displays and emphasizing the car’s analogue inspiration.
Technical details are yet to be revealed. What is known is that the model will merge Capricorn’s engineering prowess with Zagato’s design capabilities, featuring an “analogue configuration.” All 19 units will be produced by Capricorn, with manufacturing set to begin in the first half of 2026.
“This project represents a pivotal moment in our 106-year journey of working alongside over 45 automotive brands to create collectible GT cars,” stated Zagato president Andrea Zagato. “Zagato’s first hypercar introduces a new class of collectibles, aimed at enriching the driving experience beyond both contemporary and classic categories. Zagato’s connection to motorsport has lasted for more than a century, originating from the Gran Turismo category, which brought forth racing cars that could also be enjoyed on public roads.”
