Unfortunately, the commercial variant of the electric crossover 4 lacks any design cues from the legendary Fourgonnette.
Renault has launched LCV versions of the R4 E-Tech crossover, marketed as Societe.
This electric vehicle includes a specially designed storage area with a capacity of 1,045 liters (36.9 cubic feet).
In France, prices begin at €29,300 ($34,700), not including VAT and before local incentives.
A new addition has been made to Renault’s expanding lineup of retro-styled electric vehicles. The 4 E-Tech is now offered in two work-appropriate variations for the French market: Societe Reversible and Societe Van. Both are tailored for professionals seeking the functionality of a light commercial vehicle while retaining the daily usability of the standard version.
The design remains consistent with the standard passenger model, as the Societe versions continue to feature glass rear windows instead of solid panels. This decision helps to keep costs lower, but it also indicates that Renault has not pursued the van-like aesthetic initially suggested in 2021.
At that point, the brand had alluded to a boxier rear inspired by the classic Renault 4 Fourgonnette, which could have enhanced both its visual appeal and cargo capacity, despite a likely increase in costs for this niche product.
**Work-Oriented Interior**
Inside, the crossover has been modified to cater to the requirements of daily business operations. The rear seats have been replaced with a molded tray equipped with an anti-slip mat, tie-down hooks, and a partition separating it from the front area. The total cargo space measures 1,045 liters (36.9 cubic feet), with an additional concealed compartment of 55 liters (1.9 cubic feet) below the floor. The loading length is 1.20 meters (47.2 inches), and the maximum payload is 345 kilograms (760 pounds).
The modification is carried out at the Ampere Manufacture in Maubeuge, France, by a company named Qstomize. The Societe Reversible is categorized as a passenger vehicle (M1), while the Societe Van is classified as a light commercial vehicle (N1). The latter benefits from tax advantages but is subject to speed limitations.
Renault states that the intended audience for the Societe versions includes tradespeople, delivery drivers, service and concierge firms, rental companies, and professional fleets.
**Powertrain and Range**
The performance is the same as the passenger variant, featuring a single electric motor that produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS). Power is supplied by a 52 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 409 km (254 miles) according to WLTP standards. Charging from 15 to 80 percent takes just over three hours using an 11 kW AC charger, or approximately 30 minutes on a 100 kW DC fast charger.
In France, the R4 E-Tech Societe starts at €29,300 ($34,700) for the Evolution trim and €30,900 ($36,600) for the Techno trim, excluding VAT. Additionally, buyers can take advantage of incentives that may amount to up to €5,060 ($6,000) depending on the variant and customer profile.
However, optional features can quickly increase the total cost. Renault charges between €167 and €917 ($200–$1,100) for exterior colors, €167 ($200) for roof rails, and €333 ($400) for all-weather tires with snow and off-road capabilities. Other available enhancements include a hands-free tailgate for €333 ($400), advanced driver-assistance and parking technologies for €250 ($300), and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system priced at €500 ($600).
