Over 17,000 RDX SUVs are being recalled to address a steering issue that can activate failsafe mode during sharp turns.

More than 17,000 Acura vehicles are being recalled in the U.S. due to a malfunction in the electronic power steering system that may cause a failsafe mode to trigger. Although there have been no reported injuries or deaths associated with this defect, Acura has received 84 warranty claims linked to the issue.

The problem emerged during the software development phase for the 2025 RDX when the supplier, JTEKT North America Corporation, incorrectly adjusted the Integrated Dynamics System gain setting, leading to a faulty steering system. This software modification aimed to comply with California’s Idle Stop requirements but inadvertently caused a glitch.

In simpler terms, Acura explained that if the IDS is set to Comfort mode, the Lane Keeping Assist System is active, and the driver makes a sharp turn, the electric power steering could detect a malfunction and switch to failsafe mode.

      Impacted Vehicles

A total of 17,344 RDX facelifted models from the 2025 model year are affected; all of these were produced between January 23, 2024, and August 18, 2025. Only 0.3 percent of the recalled vehicles are believed to have this defect.

Honda initiated an investigation into the fault in October of the previous year and has been collaborating with the supplier throughout 2025 to determine the root cause. As noted, the brand recorded 84 warranty claims related to the problem from August 14, 2024, to August 28, 2025.

Dealerships were informed of the recall last week, and affected owners will receive notification letters starting October 20. Authorized Acura dealers will update the electronic power steering memory layout with new software, which Acura asserts will completely resolve the issue.
