The fully electric Ram 1500 REV has been discontinued before its official launch.

Initially scheduled for release in 2024, the project faced delays due to low demand.

The range-extended 1500 Ramcharger is still being released, but it will now bear the name REV.

In a surprising development, Ram has terminated the 1500 REV project. This electric truck was introduced at the 2023 New York Auto Show and was initially expected to launch in late 2024.

Although it was postponed, the company insisted the truck was still forthcoming. Just a few months ago, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis assured us that the shift to electrification was ongoing despite the return of the Hemi engine. He mentioned the company's "luxury of timing" and advantage of being a late entrant into the EV market, which allowed them to postpone their release after noticing weak demand for competitors like the Chevrolet Silverado EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Tesla Cybertruck.

First Look: The Ram 1500 REV Is A Classy, Conservative, 500 Mile Electric Juggernaut

In today’s announcement, Ram emphasized that declining demand for full-size battery electric trucks in North America led them to reevaluate their product strategy, deciding to "discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup."

This decision is surprising, as it appeared that the truck's development was nearly complete. Previous reports indicated that the truck was initially set to be offered with 168 and 229 kWh battery packs, promising ranges of up to 500 miles (805 km) per charge. It was also expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system generating 654 hp (448 kW / 663 PS) and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque, achieving 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

The REV Isn’t Really Dead, But It’s A Ramcharger Now

Despite this unexpected cancellation, the 1500 REV isn't entirely scrapped. In fact, Ram has opted to rename the Ramcharger as the REV.

Consequently, the "new" 1500 REV will be a range-extended electric vehicle. Its “projected availability” is now set for 2026, and Ram has provided updates on the truck’s performance specifications.

They have once again reduced the output of the dual-motor all-wheel drive system, which is now rated at 647 hp (482 kW / 656 PS). This is down from the previous estimate of 663 hp (494 kW / 672 PS) and the February revision of 654 hp (488 kW / 663 PS). The torque rating has also decreased from 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) to 610 lb-ft (826 Nm).

The projected range of 690 miles (1,110 km) and the updated 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.5 seconds remain unchanged. However, with multiple revisions, a name change, and the cancellation of the electric version, nothing is guaranteed.
