Toyota's GR Yaris Becomes More Aggressive with Aero Performance Package | Carscoops
Japanese consumers can now purchase the rally-inspired GR Yaris equipped with the race-ready Aero Package.
This package features a splitter, a vented hood, ducts, an underbody cover, and an adjustable rear wing.
It is anticipated that it will also become available in the European market later this year.
In April, Toyota revealed an updated version of the GR Yaris in Japan and hinted at an Aero Performance Package developed with insights from its Gazoo Racing team. The package will be available for purchase in Japan beginning October 1, and Toyota has announced the local pricing.
The Aero Performance Package includes six enhancements aimed at optimizing cooling and aerodynamics. Developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing with contributions from professional drivers in the Super Taikyu Series and All Japan Rally Championship, the kit will be offered on two models: the lightweight RC and the top-tier RZ "High Performance."
The vented hood resembles the carbon fiber hood of the more extreme GRMN Yaris, though it is constructed from aluminum. It is paired with a splitter that helps reduce front lift, as well as front fender ducts that enhance handling and steering feedback during aggressive driving.
Additionally, the package features a flat cover for the fuel tank that improves airflow beneath the vehicle and extra ducts at the rear that lessen aerodynamic stress on the bumper. The most prominent feature is the large, adjustable rear wing, which boosts stability during high-speed driving and hard braking.
Under the hood, the GR Yaris maintains its turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine, delivering 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Customers can opt for either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, with power directed to all four wheels via the rally-inspired GR-Four AWD system. The RZ "High Performance" variant also includes Torsen limited-slip differentials and forged BBS aluminum wheels.
Pricing and Availability
Sales of the GR Yaris featuring the Aero Performance Package are set to begin on October 1. The starting price for the RC trim with the manual transmission is ¥4,055,000 ($27,500), while the RZ "High Performance" with the eight-speed automatic is priced at ¥5,825,000 ($39,500). This means the Aero Performance Package adds ¥495,000 ($3,400) to the cost of the GR Yaris compared to similar trims without it.
Beyond Japan, Toyota is expected to introduce the Aero Performance Package in other markets, including Europe, where it was previously showcased.
