If Hyundai's pickup, based on GM's design, looks this impressive, it deserves to be launched in the US | Carscoops
Hyundai and GM are collaboratively developing a mid-size pickup scheduled for 2028.
A speculative rendering suggests it incorporates styling elements from both Hyundai and GMC.
Key design features have been inspired by the new Hyundai Palisade.
Last month, Hyundai and General Motors revealed plans to co-develop five new vehicles targeted mainly at Central and South America, with one model, a van, also intended for the U.S. market. Among this lineup is a mid-size pickup, and if it resembles the speculative rendering, it could potentially be quite popular.
Since the mid-size truck won't be released until 2028, its design remains largely unknown. To give an idea of its possible appearance, digital artist Theottle reimagined the current GMC Canyon infused with Hyundai design elements.
A Fusion of Hyundai and GMC
The outcome merges features from the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Palisade SUV into a sturdy, squared-off pickup that appears surprisingly harmonious. If the final production version is similar, it may appeal not only to buyers in Latin America but also generate interest in North America.
The overall contour and dimensions of the Canyon have been preserved in these illustrations, but new front and rear quarter panels have been created, along with fresh black plastic fenders. The front end showcases a squared, blacked-out grille adorned with a large Hyundai badge and an LED light bar positioned above it.
The headlights draw inspiration from the Palisade but are more angular and straightforward, making them fitting for this pickup design. A robust bumper with exposed red tow hooks has been included, alongside a skid plate.
At the rear, there are striking LED taillights similar to those of the Palisade, though they are slightly wider and appear less tall. The tailgate is fairly straightforward and well-integrated, as is the redesigned rear bumper.
Details regarding the powertrains for the jointly developed pickup truck have not been disclosed, but Hyundai has confirmed that each of the five models being developed with GM will feature internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid options. Both manufacturers have various gas, diesel, and hybrid configurations available for use.
In addition to the mid-size pickup, Hyundai and GM will also collaborate on a compact car, a compact crossover, a compact truck, and an electric commercial van as part of their joint initiative.
