Ford is recalling 350,000 trucks because of instrument clusters that might fail upon startup.

The issue is attributed to a defective memory protection feature, which will be disabled.

This recall impacts F-Series pickups, which have been the top-selling trucks in America for decades.

After encountering a significant setback, Ford's recall process is once again addressing concerns with the best-selling trucks in the country. This specifically involves the 2025 F-150 and the 2025 and 2026 models of the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550.

The current initiative encompasses 355,656 pickups, all equipped with instrument clusters that may not function at startup. If this happens, essential information like vehicle speed and warning lights will not be shown.

The safety recall report lacked detailed specifics but mentioned that the digital instrument clusters were manufactured by Visteon and that an issue could hinder their proper functioning. Although the government’s explanation was not very clear, it stated: “During the sleep entry sequence of the IPC [Instrument Panel Cluster], a CAN wakeup interrupt can occur within a narrow timeframe, resulting in a memory protection fault.”

That statement is rather perplexing, yet Ford became aware of the issue in early May. This triggered an investigation, revealing that about 65% of vehicles experienced “ignition cycle events that are in the window of susceptibility to this concern.” Additionally, it seems that the likelihood of encountering this problem increases as the vehicle ages.

As of late June, Ford had received at least 96 reports concerning this issue, including 95 warranty claims, with the first report logged on January 30, 2025.

The automaker has not reported any injuries or accidents related to the problem, and it plans to resolve the issue through an over-the-air update. This update will disable the memory protection feature, which should help prevent the problem from arising.
