A former car salesman alleged that he charged a single mother $10,000 over MSRP in a TikTok video.

The video went viral, leading to backlash and poor reviews for the Wisconsin dealership.

Zeigler Honda refuted the claim and terminated the salesman after initially suspending him.

Individuals often post various content online to gain attention, but sometimes the need to be noticed crosses a line. A car salesman in Wisconsin experienced this firsthand when he was fired for a TikTok video in which he claimed to have sold a car to a single mother for $10,000 above the sticker price. He later clarified that it was intended as a joke, but the negative response compelled the dealership to take action.

The video, posted by the account @kennyselllss, garnered thousands of views before being removed. In the video, the salesman is seen smiling as a caption reads: “You Look Happier…Thanks, I just sold a single mom a car $10,000 over sticker.” The clip referenced a trending TikTok format where users share what has brought them joy.

      Immediate Public Backlash

The online reaction was largely negative, with many viewers expressing anger at the video, and some even left critical reviews for the dealership. In a statement to CBS 58, Zeigler Honda of Racine confirmed that no such transaction ever occurred. In light of the backlash, the dealership issued the following statement on Facebook:

“We are very disappointed with the recent remarks made by a salesperson on his personal social media about the amount he claimed to have sold a vehicle over MSRP. His assertion is false, and regardless of his joke's intent, it does not reflect the values of Zeigler Honda of Racine or the Zeigler Auto Group. While we appreciate freedom of speech, we expect our team members to uphold a high standard of decency, honesty, and service – values that were not upheld in this instance.”

The salesman was initially suspended, but just two days later, the Honda dealership confirmed his termination.

      An Apology Attempt

Kennysells posted an apology on his TikTok account, stating: “It was an insensitive joke, and I want to apologize to single mothers and women in general. As a single parent myself, I understand that struggle of balancing work and caring for kids while trying to manage everything daily...”.

The now-former salesman expressed that he found the joke humorous because it was “unrealistic.” He also urged viewers to stop harassing the dealership. In another video, he clarified, “My account is centered on satire, and everything I share is meant to be humorous. I would never present actual events.”
