Nismo Version of the Nissan Rogue's Twin Teased, But You May Not Appreciate What’s Absent | Carscoops
The X-Trail Nismo is set to debut in Japan soon, characterized by an aggressive design and a more responsive chassis, yet its hybrid powertrain may remain unchanged.
Nissan will introduce the sporty X-Trail Nismo SUV in Japan on August 21.
The exterior enhancements include a body kit, red accents, and exclusive Enkei wheels.
It will feature revised suspension, steering, and all-wheel-drive software for improved handling.
Nissan’s Nismo performance division is actively broadening its presence within the SUV segment. Following the reveal of its version of the Armada, the focus now shifts to the X-Trail, which is the international equivalent of the North American Rogue.
This sportier model is anticipated to launch in Japan on August 21, showcasing an aggressive body kit and a more performance-oriented chassis setup, although significant performance improvements are not anticipated.
More Aggressive Appearance
The initial glimpse was provided through a dimly lit teaser on Nissan’s YouTube channel. The slim daytime running lights (DRLs) and the upper grille design hint at the long-anticipated X-Trail Nismo. Like other Nismo vehicles, this SUV will feature a prominent front splitter with distinctive red accents.

Japanese media outlet Creative Trend has shared expected details about this new variant, including a comprehensive list of exterior features. Reportedly, updates will include a revamped grille, extended bumpers, side skirts, and additional cladding around the wheel arches, all adorned with Nismo emblems. The appearance will be completed with a new set of 20-inch Enkei alloy wheels fitted with Michelin performance tires.
According to the same source, the color options will consist of six choices. The solid colors will comprise Prism White, Diamond Black, and Dark Metal Gray, while the two-tone options will pair Prism White, Cardinal Red, or Stealth Gray with a contrasting Super Black roof.
These styling enhancements will enable the X-Trail Nismo to stand out from other models that already feature sporty elements from the Autech and Nismo Parts offerings.
Sportier Interior Features
Inside, the cabin is expected to showcase black upholstery with red stitching and carbon-style accents, although the sporty elements may be more subtle compared to the larger Patrol/Armada Nismo revealed earlier this year. Available options might include Recaro sport seats covered in leather and Alcantara, along with a nine-speaker Bose audio system.
Focus on Handling Rather Than Power
Typically, one might expect a Nismo variant of the X-Trail to offer greater power, but reports indicate that it will maintain the standard e-Power system. This self-charging hybrid configuration combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine, which acts as a generator, with dual electric motors, generating a combined output of 211 hp (157 kW / 215 PS) and 525 Nm (387 lb-ft) of torque.

Despite not increasing power, the sportier X-Trail will incorporate several significant upgrades aimed at improving handling and driving enjoyment. These will include Nismo-specific adjustments to the electric power steering, suspension springs, and shock absorbers, along with updated software for the e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system.
What About the Rogue in America?
It remains uncertain whether Nissan will confine the X-Trail Nismo to Japan or expand it to additional markets.
In the United States, the next-generation Rogue is anticipated to make its debut in mid-2026, and reports suggest it may feature a Nismo trim. If this is indeed the case, Nissan may be reserving the sporty variant for the new model rather than incorporating it into the existing Rogue lineup.
