Dashcam footage reveals that a truck driver's U-turn triggered a fatal accident in Florida.

Three individuals in a minivan lost their lives instantly upon colliding with the truck.

The truck driver was detained and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide.

An illegal U-turn made by a semi-truck driver in Florida resulted in a tragic crash last Tuesday that claimed three lives. Recently unveiled dashcam video captures the moment the truck started to turn across the Florida Turnpike, just before a black minivan struck its side.

The footage shows the driver, Harjinder Singh, making a U-turn in the center of the road without seemingly checking his mirrors. Unaware of a black Chrysler in the left lane, he turned right in front of it. As the truck crossed the road, the minivan can be seen crashing into its side.

      Charges and Background

As per the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), Singh has been living in the U.S. unlawfully since 2018 and had obtained a commercial driver’s license in California. He has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and is facing deportation.

“The actions of the defendant while operating a commercial tractor-trailer are both shocking and criminal,” stated FLHSMV executive director, Dave Krener. “Three lives were lost due to his recklessness, and numerous friends and family members will endure the pain of their loss forever. Harjinder Singh is currently in custody facing state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations.”

Warning: The video below contains graphic crash footage that some viewers may find upsetting.

At the time of the accident, the Chrysler was being operated by a 30-year-old man from Florida City, according to WPTV. He was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. He was fatally injured alongside a 54-year-old male passenger from Miami and a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach. Neither Singh nor his male passenger suffered injuries in the incident.

      Dangerous Maneuver

Investigators noted that Singh made the turn from the right lane at an “official use only” turnaround, which is exclusively designated for Florida Highway Patrol and other emergency vehicles. By trying to navigate through traffic in this restricted area, Singh endangered every nearby driver.
