BMW has been diligently refreshing its lineup to align more closely with the design of its upcoming Neue Klasse models. Based on the images captured by our spies, the 7 Series is now in the mix. This prototype seen on public roads is still covered in a significant amount of camouflage, but we have a decent understanding of what’s happening beneath it.
This update for BMW’s flagship sedan is primarily a minor facelift, so we shouldn't anticipate major changes to the engine. There may be some slight increases in power, but most adjustments will be cosmetic, focusing on the front fascia, rear bumper, and lighting components. Unsurprisingly, these are the areas that are obscured here.
Even with the camouflage, several features are noticeable. For instance, the tiered lighting setup seems set to remain. We can spot LEDs shining through the translucent vinyl strips on the bumper just under the hood line. They appear to be continuous strips, as opposed to the segmented design seen in the current model.
However, the aspect we are most eager to see—the grille—stays well hidden. While it’s clear that its new design won’t appear as wide or narrow as the previews from prototypes of the new 3 Series, we anticipate a notable revision. Full-width kidneys? That seems unlikely. But it should diverge somewhat from the upright design of the current model; perhaps landing somewhere in between, similar to hints seen in prototypes of the redesigned X5.
