V6s Be Damned, Durango Will Only Have Hemi for 2026 | Carscoops
The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is making a comeback.
Dodge's entire Durango lineup will now be equipped with Hemi engines.
The GT model's 3.6-liter V6 has been swapped out for a new 5.7-liter V8.
After being eliminated in 2025, the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is set to return in the R/T model.
Dodge has unveiled the 2026 Durango GT, showcasing a significant surprise with its Hemi engine. This is particularly significant as it indicates that the entire Durango range is now powered solely by Hemi engines.
Beginning with the GT, the three-row crossover replaces its 3.6-liter V6 with a new 5.7-liter V8. Consequently, this change brings an additional 65 hp (48 kW / 66 PS) and 130 lb-ft (176 Nm) of torque. With this increased power, the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time improves from 7.4 to 6.2 seconds, and towing capacity increases by up to 40%.
However, this upgrade comes with a price tag starting at $42,495 for all-wheel drive, which is a $2,000 increase, but Dodge asserts it remains the “most affordable AWD V8 vehicle in the market.”
The Durango R/T also sees enhancements as the company has confirmed that it will be available with the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine, which was removed for 2025. It seems this will be an optional feature since Dodge described the powertrain as “available” and an “upgrade.”
In any case, it will be priced under $50,000, boasting 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. This is a considerable upgrade compared to the 5.7-liter V8’s 360 hp (268 kW / 365 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm).
Additionally, the Durango SRT Hellcat has received a $5,000 price reduction, now starting at $79,995 rather than $84,995. The company claims it offers “unmatched performance at a new level of value.”
Regarding the Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak announced earlier today, its customization options can be accessed for an extra $995.
Both Hellcat models feature a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 delivering 710 hp (529 kW / 720 PS) and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).
Orders for the Durango GT and SRT Hellcat will begin on August 13, while the Durango R/T will become available later this year.
