A 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV recently achieved a distance of 1,059.2 miles on a single charge.
Although this is impressive, the truck was only lightly modified and operated in one-hour intervals at low speeds.
In July, the Equinox EV recorded the highest monthly sales among non-Tesla electric vehicles.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring previously traveled 748.8 miles (1,205 km) to establish a new Guinness World Record for the “longest journey by an electric car on a single charge.” Less than a month later, Chevrolet surpassed that record by traveling an impressive 1,059.2 miles (1,704.6 km) on a single charge.
This achievement was completed using a 2026 Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck, which has an EPA-estimated range of up to 493 miles (793 km). However, the company clarified that the vehicle was driven on public roads in “one-hour shifts.”
Additionally, “drivers were advised to maintain an average speed of 20-25 mph and to limit hard braking or quick acceleration.” To reduce weight, the spare tire was removed, wheel alignment was optimized, and an accessory tonneau cover was added to enhance airflow. The climate control system was also turned off, which may not be realistic for owners in summer conditions.
Therefore, while the distance is notable, it may not be as extraordinary as it appears. It also seems less impressive compared to the Air’s record, which was achieved while traveling through a variety of terrains between St. Moritz and Munich.
In other news, GM announced a new record for electric vehicle sales in July, with over 19,000 GM EVs sold last month, marking a 115% increase from the previous year.
The economical Equinox EV accounted for nearly half of all sales, with consumers purchasing over 8,500 units. Although GM did not provide exact figures, they noted that the crossover achieved the highest monthly sales for a non-Tesla EV in the United States.
GM also mentioned that “Industry-wide EV demand is surging, partly due to the impending expiration of the U.S. federal consumer tax credit program.” However, once the credit expires, EV sales could significantly decline.
