The large Land Cruiser is performing well on a global scale, even though it is not available in North America, with one unexpected country leading sales in 2024.

Toyota's Land Cruiser 300 Series sales worldwide reached 105,700 units in 2024, with Middle Eastern nations contributing nearly 60 percent of the total sales. Russia, despite Toyota's withdrawal from the market following the Ukraine conflict, managed to secure the ninth position in sales.

The Land Cruiser 300 Series stands as the largest variant in Toyota’s expanded Land Cruiser range, a full-size SUV that remains unavailable in North America, where customers have access to the somewhat smaller 250 Series and the more premium Lexus LX.

While the 300 Series is commonly seen in Middle Eastern markets, Australia emerged as its leading market in 2024.

According to data from Felipe Munoz of Carindustryanalysis, Toyota sold 105,700 units of the Land Cruiser 300 Series last year, representing a slight decline of 2 percent from 2023. Australia topped the list with 13,790 units sold, narrowly ahead of Japan, which recorded 13,174 units.

Despite Australia taking the lead, Middle Eastern markets played a crucial role, accounting for 59% of all J300 sales in 2024. Saudi Arabia was the third-largest market, with 12,381 units sold, followed by the United Arab Emirates (9,319), Oman (8,882), Qatar (8,685), Kuwait (8,028), Iraq (7,133), and Jordan (2,849), completing the top ten.

Aside from Australia and Japan, the only other country in the top ten was Russia. Despite Toyota suspending official deliveries there at the onset of the Ukraine war, the 300 Series still achieved 3,682 sales, landing Russia in ninth place.

Munoz suggests that global sales figures could have been even higher if Toyota had released the Land Cruiser 300 in the US and Canada, where it currently offers the slightly larger Sequoia instead.

The Land Cruiser 300 Series debuted in 2021 and is built on the TNGA-F ladder-frame platform. The SUV received a digital instrument cluster for the 2025 model year and a self-charging hybrid option for the 2026 model year, alongside minor design updates. The hybrid variant is the most powerful Land Cruiser to date, delivering a combined output of 457 hp (341 kW / 464 PS) from its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 and a single electric motor.

It will be interesting to see if the launch of the updated model and the hybrid option will positively impact sales of the J300 this year. The introduction of the new generation Nissan Patrol may also influence Toyota's performance in the market.
