The car manufacturer has not revealed the price for the Speedtop; however, estimates suggest it will be around $577,000.
Only 70 units of the Speedtop will be produced, all based on the 8-Series platform.
All cars were sold out shortly after their introduction at the Villa d’Este Concours.
BMW’s M division has received approval to create its own limited-edition model.
In May, BMW stunned audiences with the stunning Speedtop. At a time when many new BMW models seem less appealing than their predecessors, the Speedtop demonstrates that when the company’s designers are well-rested and fueled with coffee, they can still produce exceptional designs. Given its attractive appearance, it’s no surprise that demand has been high.
During a recent earnings call, BMW's CEO Oliver Zipse acknowledged that all 70 planned Speedtop units were sold. He noted they were “immediately sold out” following the car’s reveal on the shores of Lake Como in May.
Although BMW has not disclosed the Speedtop’s price, Zipse mentioned that each unit sold for a “never-before-achieved price range” for the automaker. According to BMW Blog, the starting price is estimated to be around €500,000 (approximately $577,000), similar to the related Skytop, which has only 50 units available globally.
The Speedtop’s striking appearance conceals its 8-Series foundation. It is powered by the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 found in the M8 Competition, generating an impressive 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.
Though the Speedtop may appear to have four seats, it is actually a two-seater, designed by the brand for “weekend getaways.” The rear features a luxurious cargo area adorned with plush leather, ambient lighting, and matching bags from Schedoni, an Italian company.
What can we expect next?
Given the rapid sell-out of the Speedtop, it is not surprising that more high-end limited-run models may be on the horizon. Just last month, Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M's vice president of Customer, Brand, and Sales, confirmed that BMW M has been authorized to produce its own “small series” model inspired by the Skytop and Speedtop.
