The Ioniq 2 has been spotted and is set to be previewed by a concept later this year.

Spy photographers captured the initial images of an affordable Hyundai electric vehicle.

Expected to be named the Ioniq 2, this model resembles a hatchback variant of the Kia EV2.

It could deliver approximately 201 horsepower and will fit above the Inster model.

Kia has launched several budget-friendly electric vehicles, including the EV3 and EV4, and has also unveiled a concept for the EV2, which is slated for production.

In contrast, Hyundai has focused on larger and pricier models such as the Ioniq 6 N and Ioniq 9. However, an affordable option is on the horizon as photographers have recorded what is believed to be the Ioniq 2.

The prototype is heavily camouflaged but seems to be similar in size to the EV2. Despite the resemblances, the Kia is identified as a crossover, while the Ioniq 2 takes the form of a more conventional hatchback, featuring an upright front fascia with a broad lower intake, along with an angular sensor and seemingly slim lighting units.

The side profile distinctly indicates a hatchback, and the vehicle sports a gently curved roofline. The compact greenhouse is noticeable, highlighted by a smoothly flowing beltline that contrasts with angular upper window frames. Additionally, Hyundai has equipped the prototype with modestly sized wheels, which are fitted with Hankook iON GT tires—summer tires specifically designed for compact electric vehicles.

The rear section is not as elevated as the camouflage might suggest, but it appears that the Ioniq 2 will feature a relatively straightforward upright rear design with a plain bumper. We can also spot LED taillights and an angular rear window.

Details about the vehicle remain scarce at this stage, but it is expected to share many features with both the EV2 and EV3. This likely includes riding on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and having a 58.3 kWh battery pack. Furthermore, it may include a front-mounted motor that generates 201 horsepower (150 kW / 204 PS).
