Mercedes is currently refreshing the EQS SUV, which seems to be gaining a bit more personality.

In addition to new starry headlights, a revamped grille with more character is anticipated.

The crossover might make its debut at the Munich Motor Show with an enhanced powertrain.

Sales of the Mercedes EQS dropped by 52% last year, totaling just 6,963 units. As a result, both the EQS Sedan and EQS SUV were outperformed in the U.S. market by the standard S-Class, which sold 8,809 units.

The company acknowledges the severity of the issue and appears to be taking measures to address it. In line with this strategy, the EQS SUV will receive a modest facelift, similar to the sedan.

Recently captured during testing, the prototype features a heavily disguised front with star-patterned headlights. While further specifics are difficult to discern, the crossover may follow the sedan's lead by adopting a completely enclosed grille reminiscent of those on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The updated sedan has also incorporated a hood ornament, but it remains uncertain if the SUV will include one as well.

The rear view reveals little beyond a camouflaged bumper, indicating potential design changes. Additionally, although the current model's taillights appear to be retained, it wouldn't be surprising if they receive a starry revamp.

Spy photographers had limited access to the interior, but it seems to be free from camouflage, indicating that the updates may be quite minor.

While the specifics of the changes are yet to be fully understood, an upgraded infotainment system featuring the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System is expected. This AI-enhanced software includes an MBUX Virtual Assistant, presented as a "living avatar" resembling a Mercedes star.

Details remain sparse, but it is rumored that the crossover will benefit from substantial updates to its powertrain. These updates are expected to include a new battery and in-house developed electric motors, likely enhancing range and efficiency, which could allow the model to cover more than 323 miles (520 km) on a single charge.

Several questions linger, but we may receive some answers at the Munich Motor Show. If the crossover indeed debuts there, a launch could follow in 2026.
