Mercedes Recently Slashed EQ Prices and Canceled Orders | Carscoops

Savings of up to $15,000 are being offered as the brand ceases orders for the EQE and EQS sedans and SUVs in the US due to low demand.

Recently, Mercedes has lowered the prices of its EQ electric vehicles in an effort to move inventory. Potential buyers can benefit from savings of approximately $4,000 on the EQS sedan and up to $15,000 on the SUV variant.

Additionally, the brand has halted orders for its current EQ lineup in the United States.

A year or two back, Mercedes appeared confident that luxury buyers in America were ready to adopt its new electric vehicle models. However, that confidence has not translated into actual sales. The company's venture into luxury electric vehicles has not succeeded in the US market, prompting substantial price reductions on its EQ models to stimulate demand.

The discounts vary, with reductions exceeding $4,000 and surpassing $15,000 across the EQE and EQS sedans and SUVs, which sales data indicates have not attracted American consumers. For instance, a saving of $9,950 is offered on the EQE sedan, reducing its price from $76,050 to $66,100; similarly, the EQE SUV's price has been slashed by $12,950, now listed at $66,100 down from $79,050.

Some of the Largest Price Reductions Yet

The least amount saved is on the EQS sedan, which has seen its price drop from $105,550 by $4,150 to $101,400. In contrast, the EQS SUV, which previously was priced higher than the sedan at $106,400, is now available for $91,100, offering a substantial saving of $15,300, as reported by CarBuzz and confirmed by Mercedes.

While prices are being reduced to clear out current stock, Mercedes has announced it will stop taking orders for all four EQE and EQS models, with the Alabama plant where the SUVs are manufactured halting production of US versions starting September 1. However, production for other markets will continue.

According to a spokesperson for Mercedes, the decision to close the order book and halt production was made to "align with customer and market demand." They noted, "We are unable to share a timeline for when U.S. order banks for these models will reopen for competitive reasons."

What’s Next for Mercedes EVs in the US?

Despite this setback, the EQ narrative in the US is not over. The company plans to launch an all-new CLA electric sedan in America in late 2025, followed by two SUVs built on the same MMA platform in the subsequent years.

The electric GLC SUV, set to debut in Munich this September and confirmed for production in Alabama, is scheduled to reach US dealerships in 2026. The electric G-class remains available, although its sales have also fallen short of expectations.
