The new model's production will commence in 2026 at GM's Gravataí facility in Brazil.
Chevrolet has given a preview of a new entry-level SUV that is set to launch in South America in 2026. This model will be produced in Brazil alongside the Onix hatchback and sedan. GM reports that it has been specifically designed for the South American market with no plans for exports.
A new compact SUV is on the way for South America, presenting an appealing option for budget-conscious consumers. Chevrolet has shared an early look at the model, although its name has not yet been disclosed. The SUV will feature the Chevrolet emblem and will be manufactured at the Gravataí plant in Brazil, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.
This debut is part of a larger investment initiative amounting to R$1.2 billion (approximately $215.5 million) aimed at upgrading the Gravataí facility, a plan that was announced in 2024. It is anticipated that the new SUV will be built on the same platform as the updated Onix hatchback and Onix Plus sedan, both of which are already produced at this location.
In the teaser image, the forthcoming SUV showcases split LED headlights and a broad grille at the front, along with slim LED taillights and a subtle roof spoiler at the rear. The side profile suggests crossover characteristics, with a slightly larger size and heightened ground clearance compared to the Onix hatchback.
Though Chevrolet has not yet released any technical details, it is expected to feature a turbocharged 1.0-liter flex-fuel engine that generates up to 121 horsepower. Similar to its Onix counterparts, the new SUV will likely provide options for a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, both of which will power the front wheels.
This new SUV will be smaller than the recently updated Chevrolet Tracker. The Tracker measures 4,270 mm (168.1 inches) in length, while the Onix hatchback is 4,163 mm (163.9 inches) long. The Tracker, which is manufactured at the Sao Caetano do Sul plant, will also see updates in 2026, including exterior enhancements, a new digital cockpit, and improvements to the chassis.
When it launches next year, Chevrolet's new entry-level SUV will compete with the VW Tera, Renault Kardian, Fiat Pulse, and Citroen Basalt. All these models are based on their respective small hatchback counterparts, providing greater practicality and a more adventurous appearance.
Santiago Chamorro, president of GM South America, mentioned that the new Chevrolet SUV was “developed 100% for the South American consumer,” indicating that it is not expected to be sold outside this market.
