The new 911 GT3 Cup is set to make its debut soon, featuring enhanced aerodynamics and an upgraded powertrain.
Porsche is finalizing the details of the new 911 GT3 Cup, which will be revealed this summer and is designed to compete in the 2026 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Earlier this month, Porsche unveiled the revised 911 Carrera 4S, and now the focus has shifted to the track with plans to launch the new 911 GT3 Cup this summer.
The Gen 992.2 race car has undergone extensive optimization, with development commencing in January 2024. While Porsche has kept specific details under wraps, they have emphasized the enhancement of front-end aerodynamics. Although limited information is available, noticeable changes include repositioned hood vents and a new trapezoidal lower intake.
In addition, the vehicle features a significant front splitter, an updated bumper, and a large rear wing. The rear end has also seen slight revisions, including a relocated lower brake light.
Porsche has shared only a few glimpses of the interior, suggesting that the latest 911 GT3 Cup will include an updated steering wheel and a new digital instrument cluster, along with a roll cage and a racing seat.
Though the automaker was vague about the specifics, they assured that there would be "numerous improvements in safety and electronics, brakes, power transmission, and the six-cylinder boxer engine, as well as vehicle handling."
Comprehensive details will be revealed in the coming weeks, but the current model features a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine delivering 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque. It is paired with a six-speed sequential transmission, which transmits power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.
Porsche has indicated that development is "largely completed," and prototypes have been tested using eFuel at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The car has already been tested on the Italian Grand Prix circuit in Monza and at Lausitzring in Germany.
The new 911 GT3 Cup will be eligible to participate in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and selected Carrera Cup series at the beginning of the 2026 season. Porsche noted that they have produced 5,381 Cup cars, making them "among the most manufactured racing cars in the world."
Jan Feldmann, Project Manager for GT racing cars at Porsche Motorsport, stated, “We are already operating at a very high-performance level with the current 911 GT3 Cup. This has enabled us to concentrate more on feedback from the global one-make cups and develop a racing car that has been refined in many areas compared to the current Cup 911.”
