A refurbished vintage Shelby Cobra-style go-kart was sold for $9,800 on Bring A Trailer.

It boasts a ’60s fiberglass body, a custom steel frame, Wilwood brakes, and a 440cc engine.

What you see here is a true labor of love, merging old components with modern engineering to create an impressive toy. It also serves as a fantastic way for both young and old to experience motoring, as long as one has the space for it. Additionally, some extra cash is necessary since this Shelby Cobra-style go-kart recently changed hands for nearly $10,000.

Sold on Bring A Trailer to the highest bidder for $9,800, this isn’t just a mere replica. The seller states that the fiberglass body is indeed from the 1960s. They acquired the shell sometime in 2023 and began its refurbishment. Now, two years later, not only have they completed the project, but they've also entirely moved on. For close to $10k, it’s hard to argue with them.

When the seller discovered the body, it exhibited the cracks and wear one would anticipate from something half a century old. They repaired those issues and refinished the paint in the blue shade you see here. They also added other elements, such as the wraparound plexiglass windshield, the chrome trim, and the twist-off fuel cap at the back. The body features faux side pipes, functional trunk and hood lids, working lights, and a hood scoop.

Beneath the bodywork, a custom-built steel frame and running gear may be even more remarkable than the exterior. A 440cc (0.4-liter) DuroMax OHV single piston engine with a centrifugal clutch powers the rear wheels.

The engine reportedly produces 18 horsepower (13 kW), which is not overly impressive, but it's on the higher end of what the typical kart generates. The kart features Wilwood components, including a brake pedal adjuster and a master cylinder, alongside cross-drilled disc brakes for stopping power. Beyond these excellent features, the cabin is also a delight.

It includes faux ostrich skin upholstery, black carpeting, and coordinating pedals. While designed for one, it's worth mentioning that shorter adults can fit in it. Ultimately, we can't envision a better way to introduce junior to cars than through something like this.
