This Might Be The Quickest Model Y Yet, But Tesla Remains Tight-Lipped | Carscoops

The most powerful version of the Model Y was recently seen on the Nurburgring.

A prototype of the second-generation Tesla Model Y Performance, which is expected to generate 510 hp, was filmed undergoing testing in full camouflage.

This high-performance SUV is set to make its debut later this year, expected to be priced around $55,000.

For many drivers used to mild, underpowered everyday vehicles, even the base version of the Tesla Model Y can feel like a significant upgrade. However, for those looking for more than just a taste of speed, the standard Model Y may not suffice. Thankfully, Tesla has plans for those enthusiasts.

The automaker has been working on a new Model Y Performance for several months. It will maintain the same fundamental design as the first-generation model and is likely to feature the same powertrain as the current Model 3 Performance.

      Testing at the Green Hell

Our spy photographers have captured it undergoing tests worldwide, and recently, a camouflaged prototype was spotted on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

In a recent video shared on Instagram by Wilcoblok and Teslaplaidtok, the prototype was observed leaving the pit lane and gradually entering the renowned track. It was driven at a leisurely speed, giving no indication of its actual performance capabilities.

Since Tesla has not recorded an official lap time with the existing Model 3 Performance, it seems unlikely they will do so with the Model Y Performance. If they attempted it, a time around the eight-minute mark would seem plausible.

      Powertrain and Performance Specs

Like its sedan counterpart, the Model Y Performance will utilize two electric motors, expected to deliver a combined 510 hp and 554 lb-ft of torque. Given the larger size and weight of the Y, it may not be as quick, but it should still accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in approximately 3.2 seconds. This would be a slight improvement over the previous model's 3.5-second time, making it the fastest version of the electric crossover to date.

Visually, this prototype appears to have more aggressive bumpers compared to the standard Model Y. It also features a substantial lip spoiler at the rear. Last month, a Model Y Performance was caught testing without camo, showcasing a distinctive rear bumper equipped with two subtle diffusers.

We anticipate the new Model Y Performance will be unveiled before the year ends. Pricing details remain undisclosed but are likely to start around $55,000.
