The size of the luxury "boy racer" market remains uncertain, but Genesis seems poised to explore this segment.
Recent spy photographs of the 2026 Genesis GV60 Magma performance EV show that the production model will feature an oversized rear wing. Its necessity is debatable, but it certainly is a design aspect that will attract attention, including ours.
Genesis first introduced the GV60 Magma in concept form at the 2024 New York auto show. That vehicle, which was not just a concept, hinted at a car set to go into production later this year. The concept featured a large rear wing, uniquely designed wheels likely aimed at aerodynamics, fender flares with functional openings, and an updated front and rear bumper that included a diffuser.
In addition to the prominent rear wing, almost all design elements from the concept vehicle seem to be transitioning to production, as evidenced by the prototype seen testing on the Nurburgring.
The rear diffuser on the production-like prototype is somewhat subdued, while the front end aligns more closely with the subtle 2026 refresh, giving even the base model a sportier appearance.
The one design feature that doesn't appear to be carried over into production is the distinctive aero-focused wheels. The prototype on the track appears to be equipped with standard five-spoke wheels, indicating a preference for function over visual appeal in this instance.
The powertrain is anticipated to be derived from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, offering a dual-motor electric setup with up to 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. However, there are speculations that power output could exceed or reach 700 horsepower. A 0-60 mph time of approximately 3.2 seconds is expected, along with artificial gear shifting sounds generated through speakers. This all will be supported by an 84-kwh battery pack, likely providing a driving range of 220 to 250 miles.
The 2026 Genesis GV60 Magma is set to make its debut later this year, marking the start of the automaker's forthcoming performance lineup. In the meantime, feel free to browse through the gallery of spy shots and share your thoughts in the comments.
