Two fully electric versions of the new model have been revealed, with mild-hybrid models scheduled for release later.

This latest model is slightly larger than the previous CLA Shooting Brake and is expected to carry a higher price tag.

Mercedes claims that the CLA 250+ EQ Shooting Brake can achieve a range of up to 473 miles (761 km) on a single charge.

As more manufacturers integrate electric and gasoline powertrains onto the same platforms, Mercedes has introduced the latest CLA in both ICE and electric variants. The sedan was released first, and now the Shooting Brake model has been added to the lineup. While the original CLA Shooting Brake was one of the most visually appealing options in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, this new model does not quite reach the same aesthetic levels, though it does look better than the clumsy second-generation CLA.

The modifications to the Shooting Brake start from the B-pillar and extend to the rear. The roof has been lengthened and features a full panoramic glass panel. At the back, LED taillights are connected by a light bar. The revamped shape enhances headroom in the second row by 1 inch (26 mm) and increases cargo space to a generous 45.5 cubic feet (1,290 liters) when the seats are folded down.

In comparison to the older CLA Shooting Brake, the new version measures 1.37 inches (35 mm) longer, 1 inch (25 mm) wider, and is 1 inch (27 mm) taller, with a wheelbase that is 2.4 inches (61 mm) longer. Like its predecessor, this new model can tow up to 3,968 lbs (1,800 kg) when braked, although it’s likely that few owners will actually use this capability.

      A Panoramic Roof With Character

Mercedes takes particular pride in the panoramic roof of the car, crafted from heat-insulating safety glass featuring an infrared-reflecting and low-emissivity coating on the interior side. The glass integrates 158 stars that can illuminate alongside the cabin's standard ambient lighting system. Buyers may also choose an electrochromic option, allowing the glass to switch from clear to opaque.

      Electric Models in Focus

So far, the German manufacturer has unveiled two electric variants of the new CLA Shooting Brake, as the 48-volt mild-hybrid ICE models are set to debut next year. The entry-level electric model is the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake with EQ Technology, followed by the CLA 350 4Matic.

Both versions utilize the same 85 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, but while the CLA 250+ is limited to 268 hp (200 kW) and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm), the CLA 350 provides 349 hp (260 kW) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm). Mercedes states that the base model can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, while the CLA 350 completes the sprint in 5.0 seconds, with both models having a maximum speed of 131 mph (210 km/h). Interestingly, the electric CLA features a two-speed transmission, ensuring ample power availability at higher speeds.

While acceleration is notable, range is a more critical factor. The CLA 250+ can cover up to 473 miles (761 km) on a charge under the WLTP cycle, while the CLA 350 offers a range of 454 miles (730 km). Both support DC charging at rates up to 320 kW, allowing for more than 310 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes.

Familiar Interior, for Better or Worse

The interior of the new Shooting Brake closely resembles that of the sedan, which is unfortunate. It features the same uninspired dashboard dominated by a flat surface that can accommodate up to three screens with the MBUX Superscreen option. This dashboard contrasts with the elegant exterior lines of the car, though large screens have become trendy, regardless of their visual appeal.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce pricing or a specific launch date for the new CLA Shooting Brake, but it is anticipated to be available in dealerships before the end of the year.
