From over $200K to $128K: The Demon 170 saw a rapid decline | Carscoops

A low-mileage Dodge Demon 170 recently sold for much less than anticipated, reflecting the rapid changes in the market.

A Challenger Demon 170 with just 45 miles on it fetched $128,000 on Bring a Trailer. This selling price was a mere $6,000 above its original MSRP, significantly lower than previous peaks.

Dodge produced 3,300 units of the Demon 170, with this particular vehicle being number 1,814 that rolled off the assembly line.

The current moment is particularly appealing for those interested in acquiring a lightly used Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. Just a while back, these powerful vehicles were selling for well over $200,000, as resellers profited from significant markups on anything equipped with a supercharger and a VIN.

With an output of 1,025 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 1.66 seconds on a prepared surface, the Dodge Demon 170 defies the laws of physics, making the $200K price tag seem excessive. However, the market bubble appears to be bursting, which might be disappointing for existing owners but presents a fantastic chance for anyone wanting a Demon 170.

Recently, a Pitch Black Demon 170 sold on Bring a Trailer for $128,000. While this is still a substantial amount for a car that essentially has origins dating back to 2008, it's only $6,000 above the original MSRP. Compared to the steep premiums these cars commanded not long ago, this price now seems almost reasonable.

This specific example is particularly appealing due to its pristine condition, having only been driven 45 miles, indicating it has spent more time on a trailer than on the road.

Dodge manufactured 3,300 units of the Demon, and a plaque inside this vehicle confirms it is number 1,814. The interior of this 170 is notably distinctive, featuring front and rear seats upholstered in Demonic Red Laguna leather, paired with matching red seat belts.

Included in the Premium Group package, the car also boasts carbon fiber trim, a suede headliner, a hand-stitched dashboard, and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, although the powerful V8 engine might overshadow the audio quality.

Like all Demon 170s, this car's 6.2-liter supercharged V8 produces 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft of torque when using E85. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

With many considering the Demon 170 the final and ultimate iteration of the legendary Dodge Challenger, its new owner might choose to keep it stored to preserve its value. However, it is hoped that they will also take the time to drive and enjoy the remarkable V8 engine.
