A New Infotainment Issue Has Intensified Ford’s Escalating Recall Situation | Carscoops
The most extensive recall affects 200,061 models due to rear-view camera issues.
More than 200,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are being recalled in the U.S.
All three recalls necessitate dealership visits for the necessary repairs.
For one of the recalls, Ford will need to replace the entire passenger airbag module.
The frequency of Ford’s recalls shows no signs of slowing. Shortly after the company recorded the highest number of recalls in the year's first half, three more actions were announced within just three days. Fortunately, two of these only concern a total of 176 vehicles.
The initial and most notable of the recalls involves approximately 200,061 vehicles in the United States. Ford reports that a defect in the SYNC infotainment system may lead to a blank display while reversing, or the rear-view image might persist on the screen even after the driver has ceased reversing.
This significant recall affects an estimated 200,061 vehicles in the U.S. Ford indicates that an issue in the SYNC infotainment system could cause the rear-view camera to malfunction. In some instances, the image may appear blank when the vehicle is in reverse.
In other situations, the rear-view feed might continue to be displayed after the vehicle has shifted out of reverse. Some affected owners might also face problems with software updates or incorrect language settings on the display.
Widespread Effects Across Models
A surprisingly wide variety of models are affected, including the 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick.
Unfortunately for owners, fixing the issue will require a trip to a Ford or Lincoln dealership, where a new SYNC 3 infotainment system will be installed.
Two Additional Recalls
Additionally, there are two other recalls. The first involves the 2025 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition models, totaling 171 vehicles. Ford states that the passenger airbag may contain an internal mesh filter that is of incorrect thickness, which could increase airbag pressure or speed upon deployment, potentially leading to injury.
The problematic airbag is supplied by ZF, and the entire airbag module will need to be replaced.
Ford’s final recall issued in June concerns the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning, although it only affects five units. The company indicates that the screws for the front brake jounce hose bracket might loosen and detach, which could cause the jounce hose to touch the tire and result in brake fluid leakage. Dealers will need to inspect the front brake hose and replace both bracket screws if necessary.
