If you're eager to see your Hot Wheels cars in action but prefer not to spend all day sliding them across your desk (or constructing those massive orange tracks), you can place them on one of these 1:64-scale dynos and observe them accelerate without actually moving. While it doesn’t function as a traditional dynamometer since it doesn’t measure power (an engineless car has none), the visual appeal is undeniably charming.
We've encountered compact wind tunnels designed for 1:64-scale toy cars, but the Runsible 64 from Fun-Tech-Lab is significantly more affordable (roughly $40 instead of $250) and features the added excitement of spinning the tiny car wheels.
If you want something more elaborate, Fun-Tech-Lab also offers mini wind tunnels for various scales of model cars. However, the dyno seems to fall more into the impulse-buy category. The company is currently accepting pre-orders, but here’s how it will look in action:
Fun-Tech-Labs claims to have enhanced a previous version by reducing its height, incorporating faster motors, utilizing USB-C power, and adding automatic centering to prevent your miniature car from escaping and flying off the table.
It seems pretty straightforward, using just a couple of adjustable, small motors and a power source. But it’s fantastic!
This would be enjoyable to create an entire diorama around. Imagine designing a miniature tuning shop, complete with this dyno in the garage and several model cars of the same genre parked outside?
Alternatively, you could place it on your desk and crank up the speed when you want your coworkers to give you some space. However, it may not be effective if you work from home—your child might become mesmerized.
If anyone gets one of these, please keep me updated, as I’m eager to hear how well it works and which small cars look the best on it.
