Tesla's European sales decline persists, yet one country remains fond of Musk | Carscoops
The electric vehicle manufacturer is facing its seventh consecutive year-on-year decline in quarterly sales.
In the past year, Tesla's market share in Europe has dropped to 7.2 percent.
Negative sentiment towards Elon Musk and increasing competition from other EVs are adversely affecting Tesla.
In Norway and Spain, Tesla sales have significantly increased due to the launch of the new Model Y.
Throughout most of the last year, Tesla sales have been on a steady decline in major European markets. This trend persists, although there has been some relief for Tesla in select markets due to the introduction of the significantly updated 'Juniper' Model Y.
Fortunately for Tesla, Norway has shown impressive results. In June, sales surged by 54 percent in the country, driven by the arrival of the new Model Y, which saw registrations soar by 115.3 percent to 5,004 units. Likewise, in Spain, Tesla sales rose substantially by 60.7 percent to 2,632 units, primarily attributed to the new Model Y's sales, which increased by 127.2 percent to 1,179 units. There was also a 7.3 percent rise in sales in Portugal.
Despite these positive outcomes in certain markets, many other countries experienced significant declines. In Sweden, Tesla faced a staggering 64.4 percent drop last month compared to June 2024. According to Reuters, sales in Denmark plummeted by 61.6 percent, and even with the new Model Y available in Denmark, sales of Tesla’s top-selling model fell by 31.2 percent to 1,155 units.
Other nations reflected similar patterns. In France, Tesla sales decreased by 10 percent, while in Italy, they dropped by 66 percent.
Schmidt Automotive reports that Tesla has now faced six consecutive losses in year-on-year quarterly new registration volumes across Western Europe and is on the verge of a seventh. In May, Tesla’s share of the EV market in this region decreased to 7.2 percent, down from 12.6 percent in May 2024.
Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk is no longer a government employee under the Trump administration, his political involvement appears to still significantly influence European consumers. Additionally, a growing influx of EVs from China is capturing market share from Tesla.
