The next chapter for Jaguar is unfolding right in front of us.

The first of three electric vehicles set to launch in late 2025 has been spotted testing on public roads near the Nurburgring in Germany. This EV is a sizable grand tourer, which will be the production version of the Type 00 concept car revealed in 2024.

Even with its extensive camouflage, the electric prototype for the production model closely mirrors the design of the Type 00 concept. Features from the concept, like the slender lighting, seem to have been replaced with functional elements intended for production.

The long hood will make it to the final version, despite the absence of a gasoline engine. Jaguar has slightly toned down the rear design while transitioning from concept to production, opting for more streamlined and practical lines. At this stage, it’s uncertain whether the production vehicle will include a glass rear window or forego that visibility feature for design purposes, as seen in the concept. A prominent charging port is visible on the driver-side front fender.

While the concept was a two-door, the production model will feature four doors with frameless windows. It is expected to accommodate four adults, though backseat legroom may be less than that of a Bentley Flying Spur.

Indeed, the Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost will be its competitors when the production version of the Type 00 is launched. Jaguar's rebranding aims to elevate the prestigious manufacturer into a premium, low-volume, high-margin brand. The former strategy of focusing on volume with the XE and E-Pace sedan and crossovers, which targeted BMW's 3-Series and X3, will become a thing of the past.

However, the rebranding process has not been without its challenges, with reports of internal conflicts arising due to outsourcing issues.

The Type 00 will be built on a new platform known as Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Details about the platform are scarce, but it is designed to support up to 1,000 horsepower and offer a driving range of up to 430 miles with wheels up to 23 inches. Jaguar has stated that this electrical architecture can provide an additional 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes when connected to a DC fast charger.

The production version of the Type 00 is expected to hit the market in 2026, with a starting price exceeding $150,000. An SUV and a sedan variant are anticipated to follow shortly thereafter.
