The 55th Anniversary Edition is a collectible item featuring retro design and limited availability.

The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary edition is restricted to 55 units in France.

It includes vintage decals, red mud flaps, and a special travel journal.

Equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, the Jimny produces 101 hp and is designed for off-road adventures.

The Suzuki Jimny, a compact off-roader, is gradually disappearing from European roads due to stringent emission regulations and the absence of electrification. For much of its time in Europe, it has been classified as a two-seater LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) to circumvent these increasingly strict regulations.

Before the little 4x4 calls it quits, Suzuki has introduced a special edition in France to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the original Jimny's launch.

This limited-edition Jimny is tailored for collectors, with only 55 units available. Distinctive design features include a customized grille with Suzuki branding, retro side decals, red mud flaps, and a soft spare wheel cover adorned with the Rhino emblem. The vehicle is mounted on black steel wheels and can be chosen in four colors: White, Jungle Green, Bluish Black, and Medium Gray.

Inside, it boasts rubber floor mats in both the passenger area and trunk, as well as a commemorative plaque on the center console. Additionally, Suzuki France provides a special key ring and a travel journal with an embossed leather cover for owners to document their journeys with the vehicle.

This limited edition is based on the Privilège trim level, which includes various comforts such as air conditioning, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. However, it lacks the 9-inch infotainment screen and LED lighting available in higher-tier models. Nevertheless, this could be advantageous for those who prefer navigating actual trails over dealing with technology.

Under the hood, it retains the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine from the standard Jimny, producing 101 horsepower (75 kW / 102 PS) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) of torque. Power is distributed to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system, which includes a transfer box and short gear range.

Although it may not win any speed contests, its weight of 1,090 kg (2,403 lbs) combined with its compact dimensions and excellent off-road angles ensures it remains nimble in rugged terrains.

The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary is available in France for €28,955 ($33,200), with the first deliveries expected later this month.

The Jimny has seen similar special editions in various markets, including the Mata edition in Italy, Horizon edition in Germany, Heritage edition in Australia, Rhino edition in Malaysia, and 4Style grade in Brazil.

What lies ahead for the Jimny?

Since its debut in 2018, Suzuki has not disclosed plans regarding a replacement or facelift for the Jimny. At the same time, the five-door model built in India has gained significant popularity in Japan, and there have been rumors of a potential pickup version.

Initially, there was an expectation for the compact off-roader to incorporate hybrid or mild-hybrid technology, which would allow it to be marketed as a passenger vehicle in Europe again. Suzuki had confirmed that a fully electric variant would be introduced in Europe by 2024 or 2025.

However, last year, plans abruptly shifted when President Toshihiro Suzuki indicated that the Jimny would not adopt any form of electrification and would remain solely reliant on internal combustion engines, with alternative fuels possibly being considered in the future.
