Consider the Yes! Roadster as a German interpretation of the Mazda Miata equipped with an Audi engine.
The Yes! Roadster, produced by Funke & Will AG, features a 3.2-liter turbo V6.
This compact sports car generates 350 hp and has a weight of only 2,028 lbs (920 kg).
The German manufacturer is reported to have created under 200 units before declaring bankruptcy.
In today's market, small and lightweight sports cars are increasingly rare, making it fascinating to reflect on the few models that once filled this segment. One of the more unique—and perhaps lesser-known—examples is the Yes! Roadster, crafted by Funke & Will AG. It may look like it belongs in Grand Theft Auto, but it is indeed a real vehicle, and one is currently available for purchase.
You may not have been aware of Funke & Will AG before, and that's likely because this small German automaker never held a prominent position in the industry. Founded by Herbert Funke and Philipp Will during their university days, their inaugural vehicle, the Yes! Clubsport, which stands for Young Engineers Sportscar, debuted in 2001 and was in production until 2006, when it was succeeded by the second-generation model we have today.
The Yes! Roadster was slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, yet it retained the same distinctive design. Under the hood lies Audi’s 3.2-liter V6, offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged configurations. Despite being a small company, Funke & Will AG impressively provided the vehicle with both a five-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission.
Noteworthy Performance for Its Size
This particular model, currently available through Davey Japan for international export, is one of the turbocharged variants equipped with a six-speed manual. The turbocharged V6 delivers an impressive 350 horsepower and 358 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque.
Given that the Yes! Roadster weighs only 920 kg (2,028 lbs), it’s no surprise that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds and reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in a mere 11.8 seconds. That speed remains impressive even nearly two decades after its production ceased.
It remains uncertain how many units Funke & Will AG produced before filing for bankruptcy in 2009, but some estimates indicate that fewer than 200 cars were made. Therefore, if you're in the market for a compact and unique sports car, you might want to say 'Yes!' to the Yes! Roadster.
