Ford Bronco Receives Its Second Recall in Two Days | Carscoops
In light of a child safety lock issue, the Bronco is now facing a recall due to airbag problems.
Ford has announced a recall for thousands of its 2025 Broncos concerning an airbag defect.
Specifically, the passenger side airbag's active vent flap may fail to deploy properly.
Dealers will provide a replacement for the passenger airbag module at no cost.
Another day brings another recall from Ford, but on the positive side, this time it involves only one recall. While unfortunate, the manufacturer is recalling 2,272 Broncos from the 2025 model year.
The federal agency indicated that some vehicles may feature a passenger side airbag that does not deploy as designed, which raises the risk of injury and results in non-compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards.
Moreover, a closer examination of the safety recall report shows that the “active vent flap of the passenger airbag may not open during a crash in which the airbag is deployed.” Should this occur, the “internal cushion pressure may not decrease as intended, leading to a higher-pressure cushion affecting an occupant.”
Ford learned about the issue in May after their airbag supplier, Joyson Safety Systems, alerted them to a problem found during standard testing. This initiated an investigation which confirmed that the "test anomalies" were linked to a damaged plastic flange that secures the micro gas generator. Specifically, the plastic flange might break upon airbag deployment, potentially obstructing the active vent flap.
The issue was identified early, and the manufacturer has not received any warranty, field, or customer reports regarding this problem. However, it is estimated that approximately 28% of the affected vehicles exhibit the issue.
Owner notifications are scheduled to be sent out on July 28, directing customers to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a complimentary replacement of the passenger airbag module. The new modules include "plastic flanges that adhere to specifications" and will not hinder the opening of the active vent flap.
