      The 1970 C20 pickup conceals a modern Silverado V8 and chassis beneath its original exterior.

      Icon 4×4 has combined 1970 aesthetics with new components for a sleeper-style truck build.

      It maintains its weathered exterior and period-correct interior while incorporating discreet technological upgrades.

      This 1970 Chevrolet C20 holds a significant secret. At first glance, one might think it's just like any other vehicle that has seen better days, which explains the numerous paint imperfections and extensive rust patches across the body. However, this Chevy has actually been refurbished with the contemporary structure of a Silverado. It appears you can indeed have the best of both worlds.

      Classic Appearance, Modern Foundation

      Created by Icon 4×4, this unique C20, dubbed the Derelict (guess why), retains its original exterior but now rests on the chassis of a new Silverado. The company has not shared the specifics of how these two distinct pickup trucks were combined, but it likely presented some challenges.

      The power is provided by one of the V8 engines offered in the Silverado lineup, presumably paired with the same transmission found in the 2025 model. Without lifting the hood, it's nearly impossible to distinguish this C20 from others. It represents one of the best examples of a workman’s sleeper.

      While it’s common for classic cars to receive new powertrains, the interiors are typically updated as well to reflect modern tastes. What’s impressive about Icon 4×4’s creation is that the majority of the cabin resembles a standard C20, with enhancements made throughout that do not disrupt the original design.

      The central stack serves as a prime illustration. It contains buttons, dials, and a small infotainment display from a new Chevy, yet instead of altering the dashboard, Icon designed a custom panel that fits seamlessly into the existing one. The upgraded gauges are even positioned in the factory slots, maintaining an authentic look.

      Additional modifications include new leather and upholstery on the seats and door panels, along with a traditional two-spoke steering wheel that remains prominently featured. It’s evident that Icon aimed to retain the essence of the original C20, while enhancing its smoothness and reducing rattles.

      Icon 4×4 has not disclosed the pricing for this particular build, but based on their history, it is expected to be costly. The workshop has produced several other Derelict projects in recent years, including restorations based on a 1949 Mercury Coupe, a 1954 Desoto Wagon, and even a 1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. The C20 adds to this list as another illustration of how to rejuvenate something old while preserving its original charm.
