The new Geely Galaxy A7 is set to be launched in China, featuring a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The Galaxy A7 is a family-oriented plug-in hybrid electric sedan, offering a combined range exceeding 2,100 km, or about 1,300 miles per charge. It boasts a claimed fuel consumption of only 2 liters per 100 km, which translates to an impressive 117 MPG.

While mid-size sedans may be losing popularity in the West, they continue to attract attention in China. Buyers in that market are still interested in the segment, and Geely is responding with the introduction of the Galaxy A7. This model is designed to compete with both local rivals and international brands such as Toyota and Honda. It will exclusively feature a plug-in hybrid setup.

This electrified sedan is advertised to provide a total driving range exceeding 2,100 km (1,300 miles), enabled by a new highly efficient hybrid system. Positioned in Geely's expanding Galaxy lineup, the A7 targets customers who desire significant range without fully transitioning to an electric vehicle.

Geely has not disclosed much beyond this impressive range and the fuel consumption figures of 2 liters per 100 km (117 MPG). However, additional details have emerged via submissions to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

      **Shared Components, Recognizable Design**

The Galaxy A7 is equipped with Geely’s NordThor plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a single electric motor. This configuration is also found in models like the Galaxy Starship 7 SUV and the larger Galaxy Star 8 sedan. In its most efficient form, the Star 8 can achieve up to 130 km (81 miles) in electric-only mode and a total range of 1,600 km (994 miles), providing insight into what the A7 could deliver in real-world scenarios.

In terms of dimensions, the A7 closely resembles the Toyota Camry, measuring 4,918 mm (193.6 inches) in length with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm (112 inches). It is around 100 mm (3.9 inches) shorter overall than the Star 8, with an 83 mm (3.3 inches) reduction in wheelbase, indicating a more compact design while still providing the space of a mid-size sedan.

Visually, the A7 maintains a conventional sedan appearance, featuring familiar design elements with a profile reminiscent of the Passat Pro. It adopts a classic silhouette accentuated by chrome window trim and traditional door handles. The front showcases a full-width LED light bar above somewhat aggressive bumper intakes, while the rear includes intricately designed taillights that echo BYD styling.

      **Interior Features and Pricing**

Inside, the vehicle presents a typical digital cockpit with a prominent free-standing infotainment display and a smaller digital instrument cluster. Notably, Geely has incorporated physical buttons and a rotary dial to control functions instead of relying solely on the touchscreen. Furthermore, the light upholstery and wood-style accents on the dashboard and center console contribute to a slightly more premium feel than its budget pricing might indicate.

Geely plans to launch the Galaxy A7 in China later this year, with an estimated starting price around ¥100,000 (approximately $13,900 at current exchange rates). This price point is considerably lower than the hybrid Toyota Camry, which starts at ¥179,800 ($25,000) in that market. In the U.S., the domestically produced Camry hybrid begins at $28,700.
