A Surprising Sale Finally Brought Attention to Acura’s Overlooked Supercar | Carscoops

A used second-generation Acura NSX Type S has just sold for an astonishing price, indicating it might be more sought after than its reputation implies.

This NSX Type S is the 270th of the 350 units that were made. It features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with three electric motors that produce 600 hp, all wrapped in a stunning Thermal Orange finish that enhances its aggressive design.

Some vehicles evolve into classics while others remain overshadowed by their predecessors, only to find renewed interest from collectors years later. The second-generation Acura NSX Type S seems to be falling into the latter category. Just a week ago, a yellow NSX Type S fetched $32,000 above its original MSRP, and now another example has achieved an even higher sale price.

This specific NSX Type S is adorned in Thermal Orange, a vibrant color that provides a striking appearance. It originally had a base MSRP of $169,500, but the first owner enhanced it further with the $13,000 Lightweight Package featuring matching orange brake calipers, $1,500 black five-spoke wheels, $1,000 semi-aniline leather seats, and a $500 upgraded audio system, bringing the total price to $188,495.

Serious Money for a Serious Spec

While that is a significant sum for an Acura, it's evident that buyers are prepared to spend much more. After being driven approximately 1,400 miles (2,253 km) over the past three years, the vehicle was sold through Bring a Trailer, achieving a remarkable selling price of $250,000. Clearly, someone was eager to add this unique piece of Acura's legacy to their collection, regardless of the cost.

To ensure the NSX met the standards of the Type S designation, Acura made various enhancements to the exterior, including a revised front fascia featuring a more aggressive grille and splitter. The rear design is also more sculpted, and it boasts a carbon fiber hood. Additionally, the engine compartment is outfitted with lightweight carbon fiber, increasing its exotic appeal.

Like all NSXs, the Type S is equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 augmented by three electric motors. While standard models generate 573 hp, the Type S boosts that output to 600 hp and 492 lb-ft (667 Nm) of torque. It is paired with a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

From the exterior, the NSX Type S exemplifies the modern supercar aesthetic. However, the interior largely adheres to Acura's design principles. The digital instrument display is relatively small, the infotainment system feels outdated, and several generic plastic buttons can be found throughout. On the positive side, soft-touch leather and Alcantara surfaces enhance the cabin just enough to remind occupants that they are not inside a TLX.
