Many large SUVs feature the smallest rear wipers imaginable, resulting in a rather odd appearance.
The Jeep Wagoneer, Honda Prologue, and Ford Bronco Sport are some examples.
Certain design elements in vehicles can make you stop and say, “Wait, really?” While rear wipers typically aren't a topic of concern, once you spot one that seems disproportionately small, it’s tough to overlook. Take the Honda Prologue, for instance. At first glance, everything appears normal until your gaze shifts to the rear window and you notice what could be one of the tiniest rear wipers we've encountered.
It's so minuscule that it barely serves its purpose, prompting us to wonder about other vehicles with similarly undersized rear wipers.
Interestingly, the Prologue featured in this photo shared by a Reddit user is not alone in having a wiper that can only clean a minuscule section of the rear window. The Chevrolet Blazer EV, which shares its platform with the Honda, surprisingly comes equipped with the same small wiper as the Prologue.
The rationale behind these comically tiny wipers is quite simple. Both the Prologue and Blazer EV have high beltlines and narrow rear windows. Installing a longer, centrally positioned wiper would result in it colliding with the spoiler above the glass. Therefore, manufacturers opt for a short blade mounted low, able to clear just a small area of the glass without any obstruction.
However, Honda and Chevy aren’t the only manufacturers cutting back on rear wiper size. If you check out a new Jeep Grand Cherokee L or Wagoneer, you'll notice they also feature significantly small rear wipers, even with their larger rear windows. The same goes for the Ford Bronco Sport. In these cases, the rear wiper appears too small for the vehicle and can only clean a tiny segment of the window.
Surely, there must be a more effective solution. Fortunately, some automakers seem to concur. As it turns out, there is one. The Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are equipped with rear wiper blades that are positioned at the top of the rear window and hidden beneath the rear spoiler. This slight adjustment greatly enhances both functionality and visual appeal.
What other cars have you noticed that feature rear wipers shrunk down to toy-like sizes? Once you start spotting them, they're hard to miss.
