The new optional accessory is designed for compatibility with any BMW model that has a tow hitch.
On May 30, 2025, at 21:03, Thanos Pappas reported that the BMW Transport Box provides an additional 340 liters or 12 cubic feet of storage space at the rear.
It attaches to the rear bike carrier, which comes with taillights and a holder for the license plate.
The lockable box can be tilted open, ensuring full access to the trunk even when it is attached.
If you have ever struggled to fit a weekend's worth of items into a BMW coupe, you are not alone. While BMW’s SUV and wagon selections address many needs, there are times when extra space is required without needing to switch vehicles.
Alongside the typical roof-mounted carriers available in various sizes, BMW now presents another option: a rear-mounted storage box that fits nearly all of its models, including hatchbacks, coupes, and sedans. This new accessory is tailored for those situations when the trunk space is insufficient.

This accessory, known as the Transport Box, provides an additional 340 liters (12 cubic feet) of enclosed cargo space and can support up to 45 kg (99 pounds) of equipment. It attaches securely to BMW’s Rear Bike Carrier, which features built-in taillights and a license plate holder to maintain road legality and functionality.
The Transport Box is not merely a fixed attachment; it is removable and lockable, equipped with small wheels for easy mobility like large luggage. Additionally, it is compatible with the bike carrier's tilt function, allowing access to the trunk even when the box is mounted—convenient, right?
For demonstration purposes, BMW released a video showcasing the i4 M50 xDrive Gran Coupe. Nevertheless, this accessory is suitable for any BMW model equipped with a tow hitch, excluding the M2, M3, and M4 models, though aftermarket solutions may adapt them. The larger M5 model already comes with a factory option for a hitch.
Apart from the Z4 roadster, the 1-Series has the smallest trunk in the BMW lineup. Its five-door hatchback offers 380 liters (13.4 cubic feet) of storage, meaning adding the Transport Box nearly doubles its total cargo capacity—a significant enhancement for an accessory.

Naturally, BMW continues to offer roof-mounted storage options as well. Customers can choose from three sizes of roof carrier boxes: 320 liters (11.3 cubic feet), 420 liters (14.8 cubic feet), and 520 liters (18.4 cubic feet). These boxes attach to roof bars and may be packaged as part of Travel Packs depending on the model.
BMW has not yet disclosed the price for the new Transport Box, but the Rear Bike Rack it connects to is priced at €810 (approximately $920). If you prefer roof boxes, their prices range from $702 to $1,260 based on size. They may also be available as bundled Travel Packs for specific models that include the necessary roof bars for installation.
