China's newest luxury crossover boasts 681 horsepower and offers a range of up to 519 miles.
Xiaomi has introduced its first crossover vehicle in China, named the YU7. It showcases a sleek design along with a high-tech interior equipped with a panoramic display. The model presents three powertrain options, including a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that delivers 681 horsepower.
The electric SUV market has become more competitive with the arrival of the YU7. Xiaomi unveiled this stylish crossover last year, and it has now been officially introduced in China. This marks a significant development for the company, as the YU7 is their second model and first SUV, following the successful SU7 sedan, which sold 258,000 units within just 14 months, including 28,000 deliveries in April alone.
The YU7 is a high-performance luxury SUV that follows the successful design principles of the SU7. It features a distinctive shark-nose front and “waterdrop” headlights with air channels that direct airflow out through the hood. Notably, the YU7 has the largest clamshell aluminum hood among mass-produced vehicles.
The YU7's design heavily emphasizes aerodynamics, incorporating 10 through-flow air channels and 19 optimized vents for precise airflow management. It also includes aerodynamically optimized wheels and an active grille shutter system, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.245.
While we have previously seen the crossover, key highlights include flush-mounted door handles and a standard panoramic glass roof, along with a unique rear with “halo” taillights and two spoilers. It is available in three striking colors: Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange, complemented by gloss black accents.
In terms of dimensions, the YU7 measures 196.8 inches (4,999 mm) in length, 78.6 inches (1,996 mm) in width, and 63 inches (1,600 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 118.1 inches (3,000 mm). This makes the crossover 2.3 inches (58 mm) shorter than the Tesla Model X, while having a wheelbase that is 1.4 inches (35 mm) longer.
The interior, while stylish, leans towards minimalism, featuring a 16.1-inch infotainment system and a HyperVision Panoramic Display that extends along the base of the windshield. The latter, similar to BMW’s Panoramic iDrive Display, measures 43.3 inches and is customizable, serving as a speedometer, navigation display, and front passenger console.
Beyond the screens, the crossover boasts Nappa leather front seats that offer zero-gravity comfort, one-touch recline, and a 10-point massage feature. The rear seats are power-adjustable, with backrests that can tilt from 100° to 135°.
Passengers in the back also have dedicated climate controls and a dual-screen entertainment system. Other notable features include a wireless phone charger, concealed air vents, and soft-touch materials throughout. The YU7 has a luggage capacity of 23.9 cubic feet (678 liters), expandable to 62.1 cubic feet (1,758 liters) with the rear seats folded down, plus a small front trunk providing 5 cubic feet (141 liters) of additional space.
The YU7 offers three different configurations; the base model is equipped with a single electric motor generating 316 horsepower (235 kW / 320 PS) and 389 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h). It features a 96.3 kWh battery that provides a CLTC range of 519 miles (835 km).
The mid-tier YU7 Pro comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 489 horsepower (365 kW / 496 PS) and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque, reducing the 0-62 mph time to 4.3 seconds while maintaining the same top speed. However, its range is slightly lower at 472 miles (760 km).
The top-of-the-line YU7 Max features an enhanced dual-motor all-wheel drive system that delivers 681 horsepower (508 kW / 690 PS) and 639 lb-ft (866 Nm) of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in a rapid 3.2 seconds, with a maximum speed of 157 mph (253 km/h). The Max variant is equipped with a larger 101.7 kWh battery, offering a range of 478 miles (770 km).
When the battery level is low, owners can recharge from 10% to 80% in as little as 12 minutes, and in 15 minutes, they can gain up to 385
